So you're the teacher now, huh?

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

If you're anything like this mama here, adjusting to quarantined living with children hasn't been the easiest. "No school?! Wait, I have to teach now?!" The thought sounds completely overwhelming I must admit. Between constant email's from teachers and having to learn about the hundreds of apps we now have to use, I must've grown a few grey hairs. Okay so its not hundreds of apps, but there are quite a few and that can be challenging especially with multiple children home. I personally see a silver lining to this sudden change though, and I've grown to really be grateful for this opportunity, and have found a new respect for those parents who have always home schooled. It is not an easy feat. I've always wanted to try to homeschool. Being a devote christian woman and overall pretty conservative myself, I haven't always agreed with today's school districts and modern policies. Don't get me wrong though, I do teach my children acceptance and tolerance of others beliefs and to be respectful to everyone around them. Unfortunately though that hasn't always been our experience. That being said, homeschooling has always been enticing to me. I just have never been daring enough to try it, especially since I am also a practical nurse and cannot always stay home. Thankfully though due to the circumstances of COVID 19 and being a resident of New York, I have been pushed out of my comfort zone as a mother and forced to try homeschooling. I know myself along with many parents around the globe are trying our best to adjust to this "new normal".

Not to fear though, we're stronger than we think and more than capable of absolutely crushing it! The task at hand may be stressful but no one loves our babies more than we do. Let us remember that, lets be grateful for the precious time home with our children. Before we know it and in the blink of an eye they will be all grown up. We'll soon wish we could turn back the hands of time and have our munchkins running around our living rooms and driving us slightly crazy. Let us remember that this is a huge change for the children/students as well. They will need our support and comfort. Let us be their safety net, and their protection. It's okay if we get frustrated, tomorrow is a new day. Take breaks, and remember to breathe.

YOU GOT THIS!!!!

Tips:

1. Try not to stress over school work, the teachers understand.

2. PACE YOURSELF and YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN, take your time and do what works best with your family's schedule.

3. Remember to get up and move, exercise. Keep that blood flowing, get fresh air. It is beneficial for our immune systems along with our mental health.

4. Don't make your child/children feel like a burden. Avoid saying things like " I can't wait for the schools to open again", remember they probably miss their teachers and friends as well.

5. Do not feel guilty if you're an essential worker, and have to do school work in the evening. You are doing the best you can and we are thankful for all you do.

6. Incorporate music, it soothes the soul!

7. Remember to PRAY!

Blessings to you all! XOXO
